it's a spectrum

welcome to my homepage. this is primarily a site for my Master's in Information Science ePortfolio, but also a space to post about my interests.

my background

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Film & Video from Columbia College Chicago in 2011. I began my undergraduate career in the Cinematography program, as I have a lifelong passion for cameras, film technology, and cinema. I was focusing on experimental filmmaking, with a specific interest in film stock. In my last year of the program, I realized that I did not have an interest in film production as a career, but instead wanted to find a way to work with film stock despite its decline in manufacturing. This lead me to an internship with Chicago Film Archives, where my experience in film handling bolstered my learning of archival processing. Discovering my passion for film archiving, I moved to Rochester, NY to attend The L. Jeffrey Selznick School at George Eastman Museum, receiving my certification in Film Archiving & Preservation. I had a subsequent internship with Image Permanence Institute, and restored a nitrate film from 1911 at Haghefilm Digitaal laboratory in Amsterdam, NL. I also participated as a collegium scholar at La Giornate del Cinema Muto silent film festival in Pordenone, Italy.

career

Since my certification, I have worked in various GLAM positions, including university archives, special collections, graphic design archives, and managing audiovisual collections. Currently, I am the digital asset management specialist for a fine arts museum. While my specialty lies in film archiving, I have learned to adapt my skills to other areas in the GLAM sphere, including digital preservation, film festival programming, and database management. It is my goal to work with audiovisual collections in some capacity, with my primary interest being conservation and preservation of time-based media.
